My name is Tony Brave (Lakota, he/him). I am a PhD candidate in the department of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University.

My dissertation, United States of Play: A Critical Indigenous History, is an interdisciplinary project exploring the ways in which Indianness is encoded into play objects and structures across US history. I also hold an MPA degree with an emphasis in Tribal Governance from The Evergreen State College’s MPA Program.

My research interests include media studies, game studies, and Indigenous studies, along with animation studies and historical approaches to race and media.
